Welcome in the Autumn

Welcome in the Autumn

Posted by Tracey Smith on

As we transition into autumn, the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) guides us in aligning with the season’s energy to maintain balance and wellbeing.  In TCM, autumn is associated with the Metal Element.

The cooler, drier air of autumn can affect our lungs, skin, and throat, making it crucial to nourish and protect these areas.  Respiratory issues, such as dry coughs or sore throats, are more common during this season, and our bodies require support to adapt to these changes.

Food is considered medicine in TCM, and eating seasonally is key to maintaining balance.  With the weather cooling, it’s vital to keep the immune system robust, so during autumn, focus on moistening and nourishing foods that support the lungs and large intestine.  Some of the best foods for this time of year include:

  • Poached or Baked Pears and Apples: These fruits combat dryness and provide hydration.
  • White Radish: Known for its cooling properties, white radish helps clear heat and moisten the lungs.
  • Pumpkin and Sweet Potatoes: These root vegetables support the digestive system and provide grounding energy.
  • Ginger and Garlic: Warming foods strengthen the immune system and improve circulation.
  • Walnuts and Sesame Seeds: Rich in healthy fats, these nuts and seeds nourish the lungs and intestines, combating dryness.

Warm, slow-cooked dishes like soups and stews are perfect for autumn, offering comfort and easy digestion as the weather cools.

As the Metal Element is associated with letting go and emotional clarity, our Ashmira Botanica Elemental Elixir: Metal is the perfect addition to your self-care routine.  A magical blend of essential oils which work in synergy creating energy to unblock and balance meridians, our Metal Elemental Elixir contains hero ingredients Eucalyptus, Lemon and Clary Sage, helping you to release emotional tension and find inner calm, echoing the introspective energy of autumn.

Another autumn ritual to embrace is breathwork: incorporating deep breathing exercises, mindful breathing and diffusing Elemental Elixir: Metal can help strengthen your lungs and connect with the Metal Element.

With Ashmira Botanica’s products and these mindful practises, you can seamlessly integrate the principles of TCM into your autumn wellness routine, supporting your physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

Stay balanced and vibrant as we move through this season of transformation!
