Summer Solstice and Chinese Medicine

Posted by Ashmira Botanica on

Summer Solstice, or midsummer, is the longest day of the year. This year, the UK will experience 16 hours of daylight. In traditional Chinese Medicine, the Summer solstice marks the pinnacle of summer and its energy. Here is what you can expect from the longest day of the year.

Summer Solstice and Fire Energy

As the pinnacle of summer, fire energy dominates the solstice.

We are all affected by the season‚Äôs energy. Imagine dancing around a fire, feeling its warmth and seeing the flames dancing, hot, dynamic and abundant.

Just like that fire, when in balance we like to step into the limelight. We show off our gifts, our beauty and share our truth. We love to be the centre of attention and feel full of love, joy and passion.

However, when our Fire energy is out of balance, we can be impulsive and feel irritable, restless, anxious, and over excited.

Summer Solstice and Yang Energy

In Chinese Medicine, Yang energy is linked with daylight while Yin energy is linked to night. As the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice is filled with Yang energy.

Yang energy contributes to the vibrant energy of the solstice, but sometimes cooling Yin may be needed to create a balance.

The Fire Element

As a result of the ruling element of Fire, summer is all about energy and heat. This is the season to be your most vibrant and active so be ready to embrace joy, light, warmth and interaction. Enjoy the more extroverted and passionate side of you!

But when out of balance, the fire element can also make you too hasty, irritable or overly critical. If this is the case offer your clients relaxing, calming treatments and recommend they meditate and do yoga.

The skin issues most often associated with Fire are:

  • Broken Capillaries
  • Redness
  • Flushed Skin
  • Heat

Our Ashmira Botanica Fire treatments balance the summers Fire energy, to soothe, relax and calm anxiety.

We hope you enjoy all the hours of daylight this summer solstice, and that you are filled with the energetic, vibrant Fire energy. If you’d like to know more about the Five Elements and how we incorporate them into our wellness skincare range, you can email us at contactus@ashmirabotanica.com
